Greater Auckland is another volcanic area, from memory there's around 13 different volcanic hotspots there, each spot is dormant and has been for several hundred years now..
We don't hear anything about earthquakes up there which is possibly a little surprising seeing as the different volcanic spots are only dormant.. Truth be known, I doubt the locals mind not getting many quakes, some can be a little.. disturbing, even to those of us well used to a good quake...
